Chelsea goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger has announced that there has been a recurrence of her thyroid cancer.
Berger had been diagnosed with the disease in November 2017 while playing for Birmingham but made a full recovery, joining Chelsea in 2019.
The 31-year-old announced via social media on Tuesday that she is set to take a spell away from the game to undergo treatment.
A statement from Chelsea read: “Everyone at Chelsea is behind her during this difficult time and the club will provide any support we can to help her make a speedy recovery.
“We look forward to seeing her back between the posts for the Blues as soon as possible.”
Berger’s treatment is due to begin this week.
