Chelsea came from behind late to beat Newcastle on penalties.

Moisés Caicedo found himself in trouble inside two minutes when a high challenge on Anthony Gordon saw the midfielder booked quickly.

The Stamford Bridge crowd was silenced just past the 15 minute mark as a handful of defensive howlers in a matter of seconds allowed Callum Wilson in behind to slot home the opener uncontested.

Chelsea created a flurry of chances on the break to level the scoreline, but the Blues’ forwards were wasteful in front of goal.

The hosts ramped up the pressure as the Newcastle legs began to grow tired, but a few high-quality Martin Dúbravka saves kept the Magpies in the lead.

Finally, after knocking on the door for ages, Mykhailo Mudryk capitalised on some poor Newcastle defending to fire home and level the score in stoppage time.

Misses from Kieran Trippier and Matt Ritchie in the penalty-shootout saw the Magpies crash out and Chelsea book their 16th EFL Cup semifinal appearance.

Everton fall to Fulham on penalties

Scorers: Beto 82′ ; Keane (OG) 41′

Despite a late Everton fightback, Fulham bounced the Toffees out of the tournament after penalty-kicks.

The Toffees struggled to find a rhythm in the early going, despite their superb league form in recent weeks. But luckily for the hosts, Fulham needed time to grow into the game from the start.

The Londoners finally f0und a breakthrough in the dying minutes of the first half through a Michael Keane own goal, seeing Everton concede their first goal in quite a while.

Everton clawed their way back into the affair but struggled in front of goal as they searched for an equaliser.

The break finally came in the final 10 minutes when Beto came off the bench to head home a deflected shot and level the scoreline and send the match to penalties.

After a Idrissa Gueye miss, Tosin Adarabioyo stepped up to send Fulham to the next round and break Everton hearts.

Middlesbrough thump Port Vale away from home

Scorers: Howson 12′, Rogers 23′, Crooks 53′

Middlesbrough cruised into Vale Park and comfortably dispatched the hosts 3-0.

Middlesbrough got just the start they were looking for, as a wicked deflection on a Jonny Howson effort from distance found its way into the back of the net.

The home crowd was stunned once again just 11 minutes later as Morgan Rogers fired home for the visitors, giving Boro some early breathing room.

The tie was all but put to bed after the break when Matt Crooks cut through the Port Vale defence before firing home in front of the traveling fans, sparking an exodus around Vale Park.

The emphatic win sees Middlesbrough book their spot in the semifinal, looking to win the competition for the first time since the 2003/4 campaign.
