Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been speaking on Gary Neville’s The Overlap YouTube channel today, and there are some very interesting stories coming out of it.

When he was bought in as the new Chelsea manager taking over from Maurizio Sarri, the club had just been hit with a transfer ban and also lost their best player Eden Hazard.

Lampard has revealed how much this feared the Chelsea board and one of the things they said to him in his interview was that they didn’t want to get relegated, and Lampard needed to explain why he thought they still had a good squad and which youngsters he could bring through.

He went on to say how he knew how different his situation was, admitting that Derby County managers do not get interviewed for the Chelsea job.

He of course ended up doing a great job in that first season with what he had at his disposal, and bought through a number of quality young players.
