Chelsea to face off against Lazio for Hearts left-back Aaron Hickey

According to Italian publication La Lazio Siamo Noi (h/t Express), Italian giants Lazio have entered the race for Chelsea target Aaron Hickey.

The 18-year-old has made 30 appearances for Scottish side Hearts and has scored one goal and one assist this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)

His performances have drawn the attention of Chelsea, who are keen to add to their growing list of young talents. A number of other clubs are also keen on the youngster, who is entering the final 12 months of his contract.

We can also sign him for cheap given the relegation clause in his contract. The Scots were relegated from the SPL after the season came to a premature end last month. (h/t Express)

The Blues will, however, need to move quickly after Lazio made an offer for the player.

According to the report, the Italians have been in touch with the player’s agent and have offered around £89,000 for Hickey’s services.

Hearts will want to squeeze top dollar for one of their best talents. However, their position is weak following their drop to the second division.

Add to it that Hickey’s former club Celtic will receive 30% of any fee paid, Hearts’ intention to milk as much as they can for Hickey is understandable.

The Scots could lose £3million due to relegation. They have no other option but to sell their players to secure their finances.

Apart from us and Lazio, the likes of Celtic, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Manchester City, and Crystal Palace are all interested in the player. (h/t Express)

Left-back is a position Chelsea are keen to strengthen this season. Hickey is unlikely to go straight into the starting line-up, but given his talent, he could become a viable option in a few years.

Available for a throwaway price, the Blues should not miss out on this opportunity.
