According to El Nacional, Chelsea are eyeing a return for Eden Hazard. The Premier League giants are in talks with Real Madrid over the Belgian superstar, who is expected to leave Bernabeu after the end of the season. Real are keen on cashing on their attacker, with Chelsea willing to fork out €50 million. The Spanish giants are holding out a bit higher value, but the deal could soon gather pace.

Eden Hazard’s Disastrous Spell At Real Madrid

Eden Hazard moved to Real Madrid in 2019, for a whopping fee of €115 million. He was brought in as a direct replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who had moved to Juventus in 2018.

Unfortunately, the move has turned out to be a disaster for Los Blancos, as Hazard has failed to replicate his Premier League performances in La Liga. Moreover, he has struggled with constant injury issues, notably missing a total of 59 competitive matches since arriving at the Bernabeu (per Transfermarkt).

In terms of performances, the Belgian has never been able to offer the same level of consistency. It has also impacted his form with the Belgian national team, where the attacker has struggled to act as the focal point of his side, resulting in the team often relying on the services of Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku instead.

As a result of Hazard’s struggles, Real Madrid are now prepared to cash in on him next summer, in order to make way for a new Galactico. But it appears Chelsea are ready to offer the Belgian an opportunity to rejoin the club and revive his career.

A Dream Signing For Tuchel?

Despite the quality in the current Chelsea attack, Thomas Tuchel will always welcome more reinforcements, especially with the likes of Ross Barkley and Hakim Ziyech barely making an impact in the first-team while Christian Pulisic’s long-term future remains uncertain as well.

The return of Hazard, to that end, could be a smart move as the Belgian can offer the quality down the right-hand side. He could be an ideal alternative for both Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, neither of who have managed to live up to the expectations since joining the club last summer.

The former Lille starlet has a proven track record in the Premier League and shouldn’t take much time settling in. At the same time, though, Hazard has never been the same player due to his plethora of injury problems over the past couple of years.

Investing as much as €50 million, therefore, could be a risky move from Chelsea’s perspective, even more so considering the attacker’s hefty wage demands. Hence, it would perhaps be a wiser move for the Blues to shift their attention towards another alternative.
