Chelsea will have a few defenders that they will need to replace in the summer.

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are both leaving, there are no doubts over that. But club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, and left back Marcos Alonso could well join them in departing Stamford Bridge this summer.

This means there will be spaces in the squad to fill. Now, spending money on signing four new defenders will not be ideal. So Chelsea will look at other options such as returning loanees, or even free agents.

And according to Mundo Deportivo in Spain, Chelsea are eyeing AC Milan centre-back Alessio Romagnoli, as cited by Milan News.

The 27-year-old, who has 12 caps for the Italian national side, will become a free agent at the end of next month at the time of writing, with no sign of an extension being signed with Milan.

He would certainly bring some experience with him, and of course, won’t cost a penny in transfer fee.
