Media has been full of news about football’s new generation of stars making big money moves in the past week. Erling Haaland’s move to Manchester City and Kylian Mbappe’s ever-so-close transfer to Real Madrid have headlined papers.

Amidst the news of young players, veteran stars have gone under the radar. Robert Lewandowski has been the world’s best striker in the past three years, and the fact that he is leaving Bayern Munich comes as a big surprise.

Though several European giants have been closely following the Polish international’s contractual situation in Germany, Barcelona are leading the race.

The player wants to play for the Catalan side, and needless to say, would be a much-needed addition.

According to a report from The Guardian, Chelsea have the striker on their radar despite the player’s interest in joining Barcelona. Nevertheless, the London based club would first have to figure out Romelu Lukaku’s future first before pursuing the signing of Lewandowski.

Though Bayern Munich made an offer to renew the forward’s contract, Lewandowski outright refused to put pen on paper. Bayern director Salihamidzic said,

“Yes, Lewandowski informed me that he didn’t want to accept our offer and he would like to LEAVE the club. Our position has not changed, Lewa has a contract until 2023. That is a fact.”

The Polish player hit the 50-goal mark this season in his final game in the Bavarian colours. With the summer transfer window less than a month away, one can expect quick progress with respect to his signing in coming weeks.
