Chelsea had a touch when they drew Lille in both Champions League draws on Monday, continuing their recent loving relationship with the competition.

A draw with Zenit last week may have allowed Juventus pip the Blues to top spot in Group H.

But with the Italians landing Villarreal in the round of 16, it transpired that setback didn’t make much difference in the end.

And, according to Swiss Ramble, the current holders have more reason to be pleased as they have already earned over £32m in prize money from this year’s edition.

London.Football reports that the football business blog calculates that every club in the hat received €15.64m, and also got €2.8 million per win an €930,000 per draw in the group stages.

With four wins and a draw to their credit, that means Thomas Tuchel’s charges have done quite nicely so far.

Staggeringly, Swiss Ramble’s analysis doesn’t even account for the gigantic sums sides earn through television deals.
