The race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitiké (22) is hotting up with Chelsea now upping their interest in the Frenchman, according to The Independent.
It was reported by Sacha Tavolieri earlier that Liverpool had stepped up their interest in the Frankfurt striker. It comes after Newcastle United secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, which in turn makes a departure for Alexander Isak highly unlikely.
Their attention has therefore turned to Ekitiké, however, Chelsea’s interest is also growing. The London side also have an interest in Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres. However, the former is expected to join Manchester United, and the latter is also a target for Arsenal.
Within this context, Chelsea are now “extensively” discussing a move for Ekitiké. Eintracht Frankfurt’s substantial €100m price tag is a potential stumbling block in any move, although Chelsea’s qualification for the Champions League gives them a certain level of wiggle room in the upcoming transfer window.
