As the dust settles after a game, we always like to look at which player the algorightms of WhoScored have picked as Chelsea’s best player.
It throws up some interesting choices – like that of Marc Cucurella this week.
The Spaniard was picked in a rotated team and played as a sort of right centre back. After some dodgy early moments he grew into the game and ended up making some big and flashy contributions in the second half against his old team. One can see why he was picked as star man.
Not everyone would agree he was that good however, especially in a torrid first half.
Some actually criticised his defending earlier in the game, and would argue that his penchant for active defending rewards him with stats like tackles and interceptions, while some of his flaws in positioning and other areas are harder to map statistically.
We’ll let you make your own minds up on that one.
