In a recent interview with Caughtoffside (subscription required), renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah could leave the West London club this January. Romano said,

“In the end, despite negotiations with Inter Milan, AC Milan and RB Leipzig, Chelsea decided to keep Chalobah at the club. They changed their position in a few days, they decided they wanted to keep him.

“Still, at the moment, he’s not finding any space at Chelsea. He wants to be an important player, but it’s not happening. I’m told there are still conversations around Chalobah, so there is still a chance for him to leave in January.

“Whether it’s a loan, or a permanent move with a buy-back clause, we will see, because nothing has been decided, but there is a serious possibility for him to leave if his situation doesn’t improve.”

Chalobah’s Recent Struggles In West London

Chalobah is having a tough season at Stamford Bridge as he has struggled to earn any meaningful playing time for the Blues so far. The 23-year-old has only made one appearance for Chelsea in the Premier League during this campaign.

The English defensive ace has featured in 31 matches for the West London outfit thus far across various competitions. However, he will be disappointed after failing to make himself a regular starter at Stamford Bridge over the past 12 months which has left his future up in smoke.

Chalobah is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions on the defensive third of the field. The Freetown-born sensation usually clears the danger when needed and can use his powerful 1.90m frame to win a few 50-50 duels in the air. He is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.

At 23, the English centre-back needs regular first-team starts if he wants to improve as a footballer. Hence, it is only logical for Chalobah to switch clubs during the winter transfer window in search of greener pastures.
