Chelsea defender Niamh Charles has signed a new long-term contract with the club until summer 2027.

The Blues announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Charles joined Chelsea in summer 2020 and the defender has gone on to become a hugely important player for the team. Charles has made 64 appearances for The Blues in the Barclays Women’s Super League while she has scored seven goals.

In her Chelsea career to date, Charles has won three Barclays Women’s Super League titles, three Adobe Women’s FA Cups and two FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cups.

Whilst at Chelsea, Charles has forced her way into the England senior squad. She has played a part in some of the Lionesses’ successes, featuring in squads which have won the Arnold Clark Cup and Women’s Finalissima. She was also a FIFA Women’s World Cup runner-up with England last summer.

There is much more to come from Charles and she will continue her growth with Chelsea for the next three-and-a-half years.

After signing on again with The Blues, Charles said “I’m really happy and grateful. I’ve had a good few years here. I’ve developed a lot and I’m really looking forward to the future and what the next few years hold.”

Charles will next be in action for Chelsea on Sunday afternoon when they face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
