The emergence of Matthijs de Ligt as Chelsea’s top defensive target in the last few days has lead to a lot of questions about his ability, and whether he provides good value, given the large fee likely necessary to sign him.

But there’s a new part of the equation that is now coming to light. The Gazzetta dello Sport are going big on the story, talking about the defender’s potential exit and who the Old Lady might buy to replace him.

According to them, one of the top targets would be Gabriel Magalhaes, the Arsenal central defender bought from Lille last summer, who already looks like a top player.

If Chelsea were to spend big on De Ligt, and Juve were to then spend that cash on Arsenal’s best defender, the Blues could end up making themselves stronger, while simultaneously making their rival weaker.

That sounds like a nice deal to us.
