Chelsea could sell first team player to rivals for £60m despite need for signings

Right now Chelsea are short of wingers. Mykhailo Mudryk is banned and Jadon Sancho has returned to Manchester United. Estevao Willian is coming in, but nobody knows how ready for the Premier League he is just yet – and even if he hits the ground running, we’re still a body short.

Arsenal and others’ links to Madueke growing stronger

So it’s slightly strange to see the likes of Arsenal, Napoli and Newcastle all linked to Noni Madueke, one of our two most regularly used wingers from last season.

CaughtOffside claim that Chelsea would be willing to listen to offers around €60m. Arsenal’s interest has apparently gone up a level since they failed to sign Nico Williams, and sources tell the transfer news site that Chelsea consider him dispensable, albeit not actively up for sale.

There’s also talk of Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna being in London for talks which could involve the England player.

Chelsea not afraid of wheeling and dealing against conventional wisdom

Chelsea have certainly shown they’re not afraid of a signing or two in recent years, and in fact those in charge seem to love the wheeling and dealing of buying, selling and loaning and trying to create a profit from it all.

Given that, we wouldn’t at all rule out the idea that a first team player could be sold to a rival. If they think they can do better than Madueke, and can make a healthy profit on him, they’re liable to do just that, even if it goes against the traditional wisdom of how to build a cohesive team.

Right now it’s just not on the table because of the lack of cover – but if we get back from the Club World Cup and sign Jamie Gittens and then start moving for another winger, that will almost certainly mean Madueke is on his way.
