Chelsea could make a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens after deciding not to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent transfer.

The Blues won’t be using the £25 million obligation to sign the 25-year-old from Manchester United following the conclusion of his loan deal.

Chelsea will instead pay a £5m penalty to get out of the deal, meaning Sancho will return to Old Trafford at the end of the month after they were unable to agree personal terms with the player.

Chelsea ‘consider’ Gittens transfer after Sancho decision

The news comes after links with Gittens resurfaced this week. The 20-year-old was a transfer target for the south west London outfit in January.

Multiple reports suggest Chelsea are “considering” a move for the youngster, who is valued at £50m, in the summer.

Gittens briefly spent time at the club’s academy, but remained with Reading until joining Manchester City at under-14 level. He went on to sign for Dortmund in 2020.

The England youth international, who started in the final of the successful 2022 UEFA European U19 Championship campaign, has made 106 appearances for the German outfit, although he lost his place in the starting lineup towards the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports News report that Manchester United are “expecting offers” for Sancho after his permanent transfer to Stamford Bridge fell through.

“A number of clubs” in the Premier League and around Europe have “approached” the player’s representatives ” to understand the conditions” of a potential deal.

All parties would prefer a permanent move this summer, although Sancho’s exorbitant salary means a loan deal is not unlikely.
