Chelsea could look to sign Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford if Graham Potter’s side are to let one of Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy leave Stamford Bridge, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Toffees stopper is currently in Qatar on World Cup duty with Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad.

What’s the latest on the Chelsea goalkeepers?

According to The Sun, Chelsea are monitoring several goalkeeper targets, with Potter yet to be particularly convinced by either Arrizabalaga or Mendy during his time in west London.

The same article suggests that Pickford is “firmly” on the Blues’ radar alongside Brighton and Hove Albion stopper Robert Sánchez.

However, it’s suggested that the 28-year-old goalkeeper is happy at Goodison Park and is in contract talks to sign an extension, but the Merseyside club may feel the need to sell their number one to balance the books financially.

And Jones could see a situation in which Pickford, who has previously been dubbed “world-class” by pundit Peter Crouch, moves to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea’s need for a goalkeeper and Everton’s need for “one more big sale” perhaps aligning the two clubs to begin transfer discussions.

What has Jones said about Pickford and Chelsea?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “If you’re looking for a replacement, then obviously Jordan Pickford is an interesting one.

“He’s England’s number one.

“Everton, we’re led to believe are going to need to make one more big sale in the near future.

“If that’s the case, then Pickford could be the one.”

Will Pickford convince Chelsea to make a move?

With Pickford currently focused on England’s World Cup campaign, it is unlikely that he will think he can afford to give transfer speculation over his future much thought over the next few weeks.

The initial £25m 2017 summer signing (whose fee could rise to £30m) played in England’s World Cup opener with Iran on Monday and was visibly frustrated not to keep a clean sheet in the Three Lions’ 6-2 victory over Carlos Queiroz’s side.

However, the 28-year-old will put the two goals conceded behind him as Southgate’s side prepare to take on the USA on Friday evening, with the former Sunderland man dreaming of World Cup glory, and maybe even securing the golden glove award for himself come the end of the tournament.

Therefore, a strong showing in the world’s biggest football tournament could be all the convincing that Potter needs to convince the Chelsea hierarchy to make a bid for Pickford in the future, but for now, the Everton stopper’s focus will be on getting his hands on that World Cup trophy in December.
