What a game did we have at Stamford Bridge! Chelsea hosted record Women’s Champions League holders Lyon in England and had to fight back for qualification to the next round.

The Blues led on aggregate, but a late Vanessa Gilles goal pushed the match into extra time before the visitors led 2-1 late in the game through Sara DĂ€britz.

But Chelsea weren’t down and out just yet. Lauren James drew a penalty after the 120th minute and VAR review handed the hosts had a lifeline.

And despite another long delay for unknown reasons, Maren Mjelde – not Sam Kerr – stepped up with a brilliant top-corner shot to keep them alive.

Chelsea then went on the win on penalties 4-3 and knock holders Lyon out.

Simply ice cold.
