Chelsea have confirmed the signing of United States international attacker Catarina Macario on a three-year deal.

The Blues announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this morning.

The Chelsea squad had been weakened by the recent departures of Pernille Harder and Magda Eriksson, however, The Blues have added a real quality player to their ranks in the form of departing Lyon attacker Macario.

Hailed as the darling of the current United States side, Macario arrives in England with a huge reputation. With a UEFA Women’s Champions League winners’ medal already under her belt, along with two Division 1 Féminine championships, two SheBelieves Cups, a Coupe de France Féminine and a Trophée des Champions, not to mention the array of individual awards she accumulated in her college years, Macario is a name that should strike fear into the hearts of Barclays Women’s Super League defenders.

Speaking after signing on with Chelsea, Macario said “I’m really happy to sign for Chelsea and I hope to represent the jersey well over the next few years.

“I can play either as a Number 10 or a more traditional number nine and I’m looking forward to linking up with so many good forward players such as Sam [Kerr], Lauren James and Guro [Reiten]. It will be good to play with Kadeisha [Buchanan] again also.

“I’ve been fortunate to have some great experiences in Europe already with Lyon, playing with many top players and of course winning the Champions League.

“I hope to carry on those experiences here and bring home the trophy for Chelsea as well!”

Macario will officially join Chelsea on a free transfer on 1 July 2023.
