Chelsea have confirmed the signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in a deal worth £30 million.
The 22-year-old has agreed a six-year contract, with the London club beating off competition from Manchester United, Newcastle United and Everton to secure the England Under-21 international.
Delap’s £30 million release clause was activated following Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League, allowing Chelsea to move swiftly and complete the transfer.
The forward scored 12 goals in 37 Premier League appearances last season, though his efforts were not enough to prevent Ipswich from dropping back into the Championship.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with Delap during his time at Manchester City, is understood to have played a significant role in bringing the striker to the club.
Speaking to the club's media team, Delap said: "I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach.
"It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.’
