After having already scouted him last summer before his transfer to RC Lens, Chelsea are back in the race to sign French striker Elye Wahi (21), who is looking for a new challenge this summer after only one season with the Artois side.
Wahi’s journey at Lens may have come to an end after a sole and disappointing season, in which the striker failed to live up to the whopping €30M fee spent to convince Montpellier to let him go, a transfer record for the Sang et Or. Under Frank Haise, the France U21 international scored 12 goals and delivered four assists in 36 games across all competitions. With Lens set to implement a new sporting policy this summer, Wahi has been allowed to leave this summer, and suitors are queuing up.
The French striker is attracting interest in the Premier League and Bundesliga, and L’Équipe has revealed that Chelsea enquired to the Artois side about the feasibility of a transfer for the France U21 international. The Blues already showed an interest in Wahi last summer after an outstanding season at Montpellier, in which he scored 19 goals and delivered five assists in 33 games. As of yet, Chelsea have not bid for the centre-forward and are waiting for the Sang et Or to communicate the valuation of their player, who is under contract until 2028.
