Chelsea can match an impressive Thomas Tuchel record today – but will hope it leads to a different outcome

Chelsea have won 4 Premier League games in a row, and can with a 5th today to match a record last achieved in March 2022 with Thomas Tuchel as manager.

It would be a really significant marker for this side, showing we’ve finally found the consistency we’ve lacked since the German had us playing so well. It will also send us into the summer on a supremely positive note, something which can’t be underestimated in terms of how it sets us up for next season. It could also guarantee our place in the Europa League, a solid prize for our hard work.

A different era at Chelsea

If you cast your mind back to our last run, things were incredibly different at Chelsea. The mood was really starting to sour with Tuchel in charge and injuries biting deep. The new owners had just taken over, and it was becoming clear that a lot of the squad (and even the manager) were on borrowed time.

We won the Club World Cup in February, then began the run with a win over Tottenham in the league, then Crystal Palace. After beating Lille in the Champions League round of 16, we lost (on penalties) to Liverpool in a painful EFL Cup final. From there things continued to look good, at least in terms of results. We beat Luton in the FA Cup, then won a string in the league against Burnley, Norwich and Newcastle (with that brilliant Kai Havertz goal).

After further victories against Lille and Middlesbrough in the cups, we finally lost to Brentford in the league to snap the impressive streak. After that were eliminated by Real Madrid in agonising circumstances, and that really felt like the beginning of the end for Tuchel.

Let’s hope this streak under Pochettino heralds the start of a new era, not the end of one.
