Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has responded to reports linking Noni Madueke with a summer transfer to Arsenal.

The right winger has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Gunners, but they are yet to make an official approach to their London rivals.

Despite being a regular starter for Chelsea last season, the club have bought Jamie Gittens, who plays in the same position, from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth up to £55.5 million.

It was reported in June that the Blues are willing to listen to offers for Madueke, who enjoyed his most productive campaign last term, registering ten goals and four assists in the Premier League and UEFA Conference League. He was also called up to the England senior team for the first time last August and has since won seven international caps.

Arsenal have ramped up their efforts to improve their squad this week. As well as working on a deal for Madueke, they have signed Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, are in advanced talks with Sporting CP to sign Viktor Gyokeres, and are also interested in Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. The signing of midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford is also expected to happen imminently.

Madueke is currently in the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup and could feature for Chelsea in their semi-final meeting with Brazilian side Fluminense on Tuesday. Maresca says he has no doubts the 23-year-old is coping well with the “noise” surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge.

“[We had] the same noise before the Palmeiras game, and we gave him half an hour and he was very good,” Maresca said in his pre-match press conference.

“I don’t have any doubts that if we need Noni, he will help us. I can understand when there is noise around you, it is difficult to deal with that.”
