Chelsea are more likely to sign Jude Bellingham than Moises Caicedo to solve their midfield issues, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Blues may be forced to make major changes to their engine room under new manager Graham Potter and several interesting players have been linked with them as a result.

At present, Chelsea have the likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Denis Zakaria to call upon in the middle of the park.

However, both Jorginho and Kante are in the twilight of their careers and have entered the final year of their current contracts, while Gallagher is yet to prove himself at this level and Zakaria is only on a season-long loan deal.

Addressing that area of the pitch may take priority for Potter next summer, therefore, and the young tactician has been tipped to raid his former club Brighton for Caicedo.

Yet The Athletic have also listed Chelsea among Bellingham’s potential suitors alongside Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United, and Borussia Dortmund will surely be hoping a bidding war ensues between them.

A fee of £103 million is believed to be what the Bundesliga outfit are set to demand for the 19-year-old’s signature, who has just under three years remaining on his existing contract.

What has Brown said about Bellingham?

When asked if Bellingham and Declan Rice are more likely to be targeted by Chelsea than Caicedo, Brown stated that the former is particularly anticipated to be on their radar.

He said: “Yes, Bellingham particularly. I think pretty much all of the top English clubs want Jude Bellingham.

“His people have obviously made several clubs aware that he would be interested in coming to the Premier League.”

Would Bellingham be a good signing?

Bellingham was previously labelled “world-class” by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, and it’s easy to understand how he came to that conclusion when taking a look at the teenager’s numbers.

The 6 foot 1 ace has registered 13 goals and 18 assists in 100 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund, claiming one DFB-Pokal along the way.

Where did Chelsea legend Didier Drogba start his career?

As per FBref, Bellingham has also ranked in the 97th percentile for completed dribbles and touches in the attacking penalty area, 96th for progressive passes received, 91st for total shots, 86th for shot-creating actions and 85th for progressive carries amongst fellow central midfielders over the last year.

It seems as though Bellingham could be the ideal heir to Jorginho and Kante, therefore, if Potter does decide a changing of the guard is needed.
