Chelsea are trying to complete the purchase of a Brazilian football club in order to expand their influence in the game, with one eye also on exciting Palmeiras talent Endrick Felipe, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Chairman Todd Boehly oversaw an expensive summer transfer window, with over £250 million spent on new signings, but it is not just on the pitch where the American is looking to invest further.

What is the latest from Chelsea?

Co-owner Boehly completed a takeover of the Blues from Roman Abramovich in May, buying the club for £4.25 billion as part of a consortium.

In September, the size of his ambitions became apparent when The Sun reported he was planning to emulate Manchester City’s network of clubs purchased around the world.

Days later, Boehly informed a conference that he was an admirer of the likes of Red Bull and their multi-club model, along with City.

The billionaire claimed that he and his fellow investors would ‘continuously add resources’ and had ‘talked about’ purchasing more clubs, going on to suggest the move would help the progression of Chelsea’s youngsters.

It was reported by the Guardian last week that Arsenal and Liverpool had subsequently formed similar plans regarding multi-club systems.

The outlet adds that Chelsea have already been turned down in their attempt to buy Brazilian giants Santos.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are among the sides to have been linked with Endrick, as Barcelona and Real Madrid also monitor the 16-year-old superstar.

What has Phillips said on the situation?

Phillips understands that Chelsea are looking to buy a club in Brazil, with one of the primary reasons being their interest in Endrick.

The journalist adds that they currently have competition from most clubs in Europe so any advantage they can get could be crucial.

Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “I know that they're trying to get a Brazilian club and one of the main reasons is that they're trying to buy Endrick Felipe. At the moment, they've got competition from Real Madrid and pretty much every other big club in Europe.”

Could this work for Chelsea?

Boehly pointed to the success of the Red Bull clubs as a reason for making a similar move and it is easy to see why.

Benjamin Sesko is making a name for himself leading the line of Red Bull Salzburg and, rather than join one of Europe’s giants, is set to move to sister club RB Leipzig next summer.

If Chelsea can secure a similar supply chain of talent, it could make them a very daunting prospect for years to come.
