Premier League club Chelsea have invested heavily in the young talents over the past few seasons. They now have identified Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye as a viable target and want to add him to their ranks in the summer, as reported by Calciomercato.

Mikayil Faye has immense potential

Mikayil Faye joined the Barcelona B side from NK Kustosija in the summer of 2023. In a short time, he has already established himself as a reliable name. His performances have been so impressive that the club are considering promoting him to the senior team next season.

The Senegal defender has featured in 27 games this season and scored four goals so far. He mainly plays as a centre-back but is also comfortable in the left full-back position. He is equally good in both the attacking and defensive aspects of the ball.

Mikayil has the ability to build attacks from the back either by carrying the ball or supplying it to teammates. He has a great temperament and prefers focusing on positioning rather than going for unnecessary tackles. The youngster also has incredible shooting and crossing skills.

Good investment for Chelsea

Chelsea want to bolster their defensive unit ahead of next season by singing Mikayil Faye in the summer window. The club are having a below-par campaign and have looked vulnerable in the defence. As veteran Thiago Silva is set to leave the side at the end of the club, the club are preparing to bring in a replacement.

Though the Barcelona defender won’t be a direct fill, he could be a long-term investment. He has already shown solid glimpses and has a lot of room for improvement. If nourished well, he can become a leader in the backline for the Blues.

From Barcelona‘s point of view, they might try to hold onto the defender. But their continued financial struggles might tempt them to cash in on the player. It is reported that the Spanish club would demand €15-20 million to sanction the deal.
