Chelsea have approached the agents of former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso over a possible move to Stamford Bridge according to reports.

The Blues lost Thiago Silva last summer and have added Tosin Adarabioyo to their ranks to help bolster their defensive options, whilst Renato Veiga’s arrival fills the role of a left footed defender the club were in the market for.

Chelsea have plenty of options at the back and seemingly don’t need any more defenders unless someone leaves, with Trevoh Chalobah the most likely candidate.

Chelsea contact Hermoso’s agent

According to Radio Punto Nuovo Chelsea have entered the race for Hermoso, who is now a free agent after his deal with Atletico expired.

The report states that the Blues have made contact with his agents over a possible move to Stamford Bridge, whilst there is also thought to be interest from Tottenham, Aston Villa, Napoli and Inter Milan.

Hermoso is a free agent after his deal with Atletico expired.

The 29-year-old has plenty of experience and can play at both centre back and left back, but there isn’t any room for him in the current squad, meaning the links don’t make a lot of sense.

Hermoso made 45 appearances in all competitions for Atletico Madrid last season and won La Liga during his time at the club.

A move for Hermoso would have made a lot of sense if Chelsea had offloaded Chalobah and hadn’t signed Veiga, but that isn’t the case, and the club have a really talented crop of defenders to choose from next season.

In regards to Chalobah’s potential departure there are no fresh updates, and the 24-year-old will reportedly only leave Stamford Bridge for a club in the Champions League.

The Blues are still believed to be in the market for a winger and striker, and still have dreams of signing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, although a deal for the Spain star seems unlikely at this stage.
