Chelsea have today confirmed the appointment of Laurence Stewart, to work in a “new position” as a technical director focusing on “football globally” according to a statement on the club’s website.
We’re not entirely sure how we will separate the roles of all these new faces coming in, but presumably it will make itself clear further down the line when they’re all in place.
Stewart is currently employed by Monaco, and will stay there to “complete his commitments.”
Stewart has there been working with Paul Mitchell, one of the most in demand directors of football around. Before that, he was the head of global scouting at Red Bull’s parent company, and had also worked with Man City and Everton.
It all fits into the model Todd Boehly and his fellow new owners are adopting of absorbing as much information and talent from the Red Bull group and other similar football organisations as quickly as possible to help Chelsea catch up with them on the recruitment and business side.
