According to BBC Sport, Chelsea and Strasbourg are preparing to make the appropriate changes to comply with UEFA’s rules on multi-club ownership should the sister clubs qualify for the same continental competition next season. Both BlueCo-owned clubs look set to qualify for European football next season and could face potential bans if both clubs were deemed to be owned by the same owners.
In a surprising turn of events, Strasbourg have emerged as an unlikely contender to qualify for the Champions League in Ligue 1 this season. Remaining unbeaten since the March international break, Liam Rosenior’s side are in the hunt to qualify for UEFA’s premier continental competition with two league games remaining. Chelsea can also qualify for the Champions League – they currently sit in 5th place, which will be enough to qualify in the Premier League this term.
If both the Blues and the Racing club qualify for the same competition next term, BlueCo would opt to transfer its ownership of Strasbourg into a blind trust. This is a method that has been utilised by Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS so that Manchester United and OGC Nice could both compete in the UEFA Europa League this term.
