N’Golo Kante has started this season like he has so many others – with some strong performances followed by a moderately serious injury.
Given that, you can understand why the club want to keep him, but not at any cost.
With the dust settling on the appointment of Graham Potter as the new manager, attentions can turn to the contract situation which had plagued the club for the last year or so.
Kante’s deal expires at the end of this season, and if we don’t tie him down now, he will be able to walk away for free.
David Ornstein’s piece on it all notes that Kante wants a 3 year deal with an additional one year extension, while the club only want to offer a 2 year deal with one year extension.
The new regime have been happy to throw money around when it suits them, and we’re inclined to think that if he gets back fit and plays well in the next few months, they’ll give the 31 year old the deal he wants.
