Chelsea an absolute embarrassment – Just shoot me if Newcastle United ever end up like this

I have always seen Chelsea as the total antithesis of Newcastle United.

The club and fanbase that is the most extreme direct opposite of everything that I think of NUFC.

In the modern day, Chelsea are absolutely the club that sums up how ridiculous things have got in terms of summing up what supposedly is and isn’t a ‘big’ club these days.

A club with a very small fanbase who the Premier League (and the Government…) allowed to have an owner like Abramovich doing whatever he wanted, buying the entitled Chelsea fans trophy after trophy for almost two full decades.

Chelsea to me are very much like PSG, a club that were basically pretty much nothing until in the modern day, having owners that were allowed to spend whatever they wanted, winning loads of trophies and lapped up by a clueless media, where other clubs are now meant to be looked down on, when compared to the likes of PSG and Chelsea. PSG were only invented as a club in the 1970s by businessmen in Paris, a city barely interested in football, who saw an opportunity to make lots of money. That ended in failure, repeatedly, as PSG were in regular financial meltdown over the course of decades, before Qatar came along.

Anyway, I went off at a bit of a tangent there…

What I want to talk about is the Chelsea match last night.

Nothing else on, so I watched their game with Everton on TV.

If you haven’t seen what happened, these are the basic facts.

Chelsea 2-0 up after 18 minutes, Cole Palmer gets his hat-trick on 29 minutes, 4-0 up at half-time, Cole Palmer moves to the top of the Premier League goalscorer charts when scoring a penalty in the 64th minute, 20 year old Alfie Gilchrist comes off the bench and scores in the 90th minute for it to end 6-0. This means Chelsea are now on an eight game unbeaten (four wins and four draws in the Premier League.

Yet as a Newcastle United fan, all I felt at the end was… please shoot me if this ever happens at Newcastle United.

You see, with the other things that happened on Monday night, it just summed up what a horrific joke Chelsea really are as a club.

I am not saying all Chelsea fans are an embarrassment but overall, their fanbase is shocking.

They do, like most Premier League clubs, have a decent hardcore of supporters who travel to away matches, however, beyond that they are absolutely desperate. If you had turned on the TV at any point last night, apart from when actual goals were being scored, you would honestly have thought it was a goalless draw if judging it by the fans. It was appalling. I get the impression that their entitled fans are just thinking ‘yes we’re hammering a rubbish Everton 6-0 and our star player has scored four goals, but we are Chelsea, we should be winning Premier Leagues and Champions Leagues, this is still a disgrace etc etc, why don’t the owners spend another billion on players and get a new manager whilst they are on…’

Even the other week when Man U collapsed and allowed Chelsea to turn 2-3 into 4-3 very late on, the way their fans reacted couldn’t have bee different to what we saw when Newcastle came back and beat West Ham 4-3. When the cameras zoomed in on the Chelsea fans ‘celebrating’ in that win over Man U, they still look so half-hearted, just doing what they think they should be doing, trying to copy what they have seen fans of other clubs do in this kind of moment, a few of them even put their phones away for a few seconds!!!

Going back to last night, a moment happened on the pitch that totally undermined the positives of hammering Everton, it summed up the poison that runs through Chelsea, whether it is the owners, most of the ‘fans’, then of course the players who have seen Chelsea as their ideal destination.

It isn’t a new thing but honestly, the overwhelming majority of this Chelsea squad, I wouldn’t want Newcastle United to touch with the proverbial bargepole, even if they were free transfers willing to come and play at NUFC for a fiver a week.

Anyway, Chelsea are awarded the penalty just after the hour mark.

A chance to make it 5-0, a chance for the usual nominated penalty taker Cole Palmer to make it four goals in the game AND move to the top of the Premier League goalscoring list, plus Cole Palmer himself won the penalty when fouled in the penalty area.

What could possibly go wrong as he was holding the ball waiting to take the penalty?

Amazingly, TV viewers watched on as both Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson tried to snatch the ball away from Cole Palmer so they could be the one to take the spot-kick. This was NOT a case of players having a laugh, they were deadly serious, they were getting very physical and clearly, for unknown reasons, seeing it as a disgrace and totally disrespectful that neither of them were the ones taking the penalty.

It was beyond surreal and I would have felt physically sick if this was Newcastle United players going on like this. Even after Cole Palmer scored the penalty, these other two players didn’t even pretend to be pleased that Chelsea were now 5-0 up and Palmer had his fourth. Quite the opposite. If looks could kill…

I felt really sorry for Mauricio Pochettino, he looked absolutely gutted at the side of the pitch at these embarrassing scenes. Imagine having to work on the training ground each day and be civil to them off it, when having these type of characters in your squad? The thing is as well, it was these two last night, but match after match we see so many Chelsea players who lack character and desire, clearly they couldn’t give a toss about the club or fanbase.

When some Newcastle United fans have made such clueless odious over the top criticism of the likes of Dan Burn, Kieran Trippier, Sean Longstaff and whoever else is the latest scapegoat, you want to give them a real shake and try to get them to understand just how great it is having players who really care. Plus it isn’t of course just local / English players, the likes of Bruno, Schar, Joelinton, Isak and the rest all absolutely play for the shirt and the fans.

Mauricio Pochettino talking to Talksport about the disgraceful scenes from these Chelsea players:

“I’m so upset.

“Very disappointed.

“We were talking in the dressing room now after the game…

“It is so disappointing.

“I cannot accept this type of behaviour because we know that the penalty taker is Palmer, the players know and we cannot accept these type of things.

“I told them that this was the last time I want to see this type of behaviour on the pitch because after that kind of performance we cannot show a different way to think about the team.

“The penalty taker is Palmer.

“It’s Palmer who needs to decide.

“If he wants to give the penalty to someone else, it’s up to him.

“The image that we gave I think is important to fix and I think they realise now.

“I can promise that it’s not going to happen again.”

As I say, I feel really sorry for Maurcio Pochettino, who comes across as a really decent bloke.

However, I do disagree on a few things.

I don’t for one minute think that these Chelsea players care about how this came across for those watching, both on TV and those inside Stamford Bridge.

It will for sure happen again with this lot of Chelsea players, whether it is penalty situations or other issues on the pitch.

These Chelsea players absolutely don’t care about the fans or the club and nothing will change that.

Whilst I also think that for sure, Mauricio Pochettino should have subbed both of these players before even the penalty was taken, then dropped them for the rest of the season and applied whatever fines possible.

Nothing will change at Chelsea, they are rotten throughout the club, the likes of Pochettino will be sacked soon and the few decent characters they have in the squad, such as Gallagher and Palmer need to get out ASAP as well.

Obviously I would love Newcastle United to have won the trophies that Chelsea have done in the past 20+ years BUT I honestly wouldn’t want a single one of them, if it meant I was supporting a club like Chelsea, with a similar fanbase.
