Chelsea manager Emma Hayes is hoping that her side can build on their first victory of the season when they take on West Ham United at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday evening.

The Blues defeated Manchester City 2-0 on home soil on Sunday as they picked up their first three points of the new season. It was far from a classic Chelsea performance but collecting the win was the most important factor.

When speaking ahead of her side’s latest fixture against West Ham United, Chelsea boss Hayes said that the target is to build on the momentum from the weekend.

“It’s just the beginning,” Hayes said. “We have to realise that it was just our second game of the season (against Manchester City), we haven’t been able to build any momentum with games being sandwiched in-between two international camps and a there was also a game cancellation.

“For us, we just want to build on the momentum, particularly of the second half, and put in the performance that we have come to expect.”

Going on to discuss West Ham United, Hayes highlighted the East Londoners’ solid start under the leadership of new manager Paul Konchesky before adding that Chelsea are very much in control of their own destiny in their latest fixture.

She said “They had some good form in pre-season and had a good result in the opening game of the season (against Everton) but once again, I think it is about us focusing on ourselves, our strategy and the execution of that. That is our priority.”

Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 7.05pm on Wednesday evening. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
