The legendary Portuguese manager has already informed his representatives that he would be open to a Premier League comeback, with his family being based in London and the majority of his social life.

Mourinho's entourage has let it be known to Chelsea chiefs that he would be keen to assume the responsibility of any forthcoming vacancy at the club; however, they are set to stick by Graham Potter for the forseeable future.

In terms of other openings in London, the West Ham United job could become available in the coming weeks if their shaky run of form under David Moyes continues to linger.

What has Simon Phillips said about Jose Mourinho?

Journalist Phillips says that Mourinho got in contact with potential Chelsea buyers when the club was up for sale to offer his services.

Phillips told GMS: "It's true, I heard this months ago and I actually reported it on my site because I was told that Mourinho approached some of the potential Chelsea buyers when the club was first up for sale through Jorge Mendes, obviously, the agent who has good connections with Mourinho and Chelsea.

"He said 'I want to come back to the club, if you're thinking about a new manager, I want to come back for a third spell', so Mourinho is keen to come back to Chelsea that's 100% true."

Could Mourinho ever complete a sensational return to Chelsea?

Nothing is impossible and you wouldn't bet against the possibility in the future of Mourinho returning one more time to the club he enjoyed so much success at in the earlier stages of his managerial career.

Across his two spells with Chelsea, the 60-year-old guided them to three Premier League titles, three EFL Cup trophies, one FA Cup and one Community Shield honour, as per Transfermarkt.

Heralded as a master tactician and never short of a charismatic quip in press conferences, Mourinho is someone who always provides entertainment value in abundance when in charge of an elite club.
