Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher could still leave Stamford Bridge before September’s transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The £50m-rated midfielder made the return to his boyhood club following a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, but he could find opportunities hard to come by under Thomas Tuchel.

Following four loan deals away from west London, Gallagher finally made his senior Chelsea debut last weekend in the 1-0 victory at Everton.

However, despite stating on Instagram that he was ‘really proud’ to pull on the blue shirt for the first time in a competitive match, it probably didn’t happen in the way the 22-year-old would have envisaged.

That’s because Gallagher, once described as a ‘class act‘, replaced fellow midfielder Jorginho in the ninth minute of injury-time at Goodison Park, meaning he only enjoyed just a couple of touches of the ball.

Gallagher will be hoping to get far more minutes when Chelsea host Tottenham on Sunday, but he could face a battle on his hands, with Mateo Kovacic also battling for one of two midfield spots.

And Bridge reckons that despite Thomas Tuchel praising the youngster in pre-season, he won’t definitely be at the club beyond next month’s deadline.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “As much as Conor wants to prove that he’s a Chelsea level player, I don’t know if Tuchel feels the same.

“He looked out of position against Arsenal in Orlando, so I think that’s one to keep an eye on, I don’t think it’s set in stone that he’s going to be at Chelsea come September.”

Despite appearing to be part of Tuchel’s plans in the short term, Gallagher is still attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

According to 90min, top-flight trio West Ham, Newcastle and Crystal Palace have all enquired over a potential loan or permanent deal, although the report states that Chelsea aren’t willing to let him leave.

Furthermore, despite playing just a single minute on his Blues bow, The Guardian believe that Gallagher isn’t interested in leaving Stamford Bridge this window and wants to fight for his place.

With four more Premier League matches left before the market closes for business, though, Gallagher’s game-time across those fixtures could be the deciding factor on where he sees his future.
