Chelsea moving for Ajax and Ghana star Mohammed Kudus would not be a surprise, says transfer reporter Dean Jones.

The 22-year-old really impressed for the Black Stars at the World Cup, and Jones thinks he would be a good fit at Stamford Bridge.

While Jones can imagine Chelsea going after Kudus following his exploits in Qatar, the journalist recently told GIVEMESPORT that they are not currently leading the race for his signature.

Whoever ends up signing the versatile Ghanaian will probably have to pay a hefty fee, which comes as no surprise given his recent performances for his nation.

According to The Sun, Ajax are likely to ask for around £40m for Kudus, who scored two goals in three games in Qatar (via Transfermarkt).

In regards to his club form, the former Nordsjaelland man has scored 10 times in 21 appearances (also per Transfermarkt), so he really is having an impressive season.

Jones thinks Chelsea signing Kudus would fit with the club’s transfer strategy.

Speaking to GMS, he said: “Given their current recruitment drive and the approach that they’re taking to new signings, he does kind of fit the bill, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them drawn towards him soon.”

Just how good was Mohammed Kudus at the World Cup?

As already mentioned, Kudus carried a goal threat for Ghana. In the end, his brace against South Korea was not enough to take his side into the knockout round after their 2-0 loss against Uruguay and the Taegeuk Warriors’ win versus Portugal.

Nevertheless, the Ajax star can still be pleased with how he performed at the tournament.
