Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer if the Blues talent falls further down the pecking order, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The 22-year-old had garnered plenty of interest in his services from fellow Premier League clubs towards the end of the January transfer window.

According to sources who have spoken to Football Insider, Chelsea could be prepared to allow Gallagher to join Newcastle United in the summer after the Tyneside club pursued the midfielder during the winter transfer window.

It is said that the Blues academy product was interested in joining the north-east outfit but nothing eventually came of the move.

However, reports on the contrary have suggested that Chelsea could now offer Gallagher a new contract after the talent stayed at Stamford Bridge during January, despite interest from fellow Premier League sides including Everton, who were prepared to offer £45m for his services as per Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas.

Jacobs has also told GiveMeSport that Gallagher was available for transfer during the recently shut transfer window but believes that he could still leave Graham Potter’s side in the summer.

What has Jacobs said about Chelsea and Gallagher?

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “Gallagher is a possibility in the summer because Chelsea may well need outgoings and they can probably pull in £40m or so for Gallagher, which is a decent piece of business. If Chelsea are to bring in more midfielders Gallagher might go down the pecking order.”

Gallagher has struggled for regular playing time at Stamford Bridge, following last season’s impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace.

The four-time England international has played in just 44% of available minutes in the Premier League this campaign, hitting the back of the net once whilst providing a singular assist, suggesting that he may need to leave west London to get regular football under his belt.

The Epsom-born star has already proved his worth in the top flight during his temporary switch to Palace, in which he bagged eight goals and provided three assists in 34 Premier League outings last season, indicating that he can be a quality player in the middle of the park when given the opportunity.

However, with game time hard to come by under both Thomas Tuchel and Potter this season, the former West Bromwich Albion loanee has only been able to earn himself an average WhoScored rating of 6.57 for his displays in the Premier League, suggesting that a parting of the ways could occur for the right price this summer.

Therefore, both Gallagher and Chelsea may feel that a transfer away from Stamford Bridge could be the best solution for all parties as the 6 foot midfielder looks to reignite his top-division career.
