Chelsea star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has a ‘small chance’ of sealing his Stamford Bridge exit ahead of the January window slamming shut, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Blues boss Graham Potter is reshaping his squad and, having already signed David Datro Fofana and Joao Felix, bolstered his attacking options by sealing the £88.5million arrival of Mykhailo Mudryk last weekend.

According to The Telegraph, Barcelona are keen on re-signing Aubameyang and urgently seeking legal clarity over the situation.

The report suggests the Gabon international has an uncertain future under Chelsea head coach Potter and the Catalan giants want to seal his return to the Camp Nou on a free transfer.

Having only headed to Stamford Bridge in a £10million deal from Barcelona last September, Fifa rules stipulate that Aubameyang can only feature for either of the two sides for the remainder of the campaign.

Alex Crook, the respected talkSPORT reporter, recently told GiveMeSport that the striker does not have a future at Chelsea.

Aubameyang’s contract, which is worth £170,000-per-week, is due to expire in the summer of 2024.

What has Dean Jones said about Aubameyang?

Jones has refused to rule out the possibility of Aubameyang cutting his Chelsea spell short by moving onto pastures new in the coming weeks.

The journalist feels a quickfire return to former employers Barcelona could be on the cards ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “I think there’s a small chance he could still leave this month.

“It is complicated, obviously. But if Barcelona could find a way for that, I think that it’s not impossible.”

Should Chelsea offload Aubameyang this month?

Aubameyang has failed to reproduce his best form since heading to Chelsea and only found the back of the net three times in 17 appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

The 33-year-old was initially brought in to work under Thomas Tuchel, having got his name on the scoresheet on 79 occasions during their time together at Borussia Dortmund.

But the German was sacked just a matter of days after his arrival at Stamford Bridge and Potter’s appointment has not played into Aubameyang’s hands.

The fact he does not feature in the forefront of the former Brighton & Hove Albion chief’s plans was made abundantly clear when he was substituted, having already been introduced from the bench, during Chelsea’s Premier League defeat to Manchester City earlier this month.

Sofascore statistics show Aubameyang has only averaged a Premier League goal every 431 minutes this season and, consequently, the Blues should not stand in his way if Barcelona are able to engineer a move back to La Liga.
