Chelsea 1-1 Man Utd ratings: McTominay stars but Wan-Bissaka struggles | OneFootball

Manchester United prepared for the arrival of interim manager Ralf Rangnick with an excellent point at leaders Chelsea. Jadon Sancho’s breakaway goal threatened a seismic shock, but Jorginho’s 69th-minute penalty salvaged a point for Thomas Tuchel’s Blues.

United showed the resilience and determination so glaringly absent in the dying embers of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure to record a brilliant draw in Michael Carrick’s first – and possibly only – league game in charge. Here is how each Red rated

David de Gea – 8

Had little to do for much of the game but proved pivotal at key moments with top stops to deny Callum Hudson-Odoi and Antonio Rudiger.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4

Two errors in the first half and his positioning was poor. Gave away the penalty with a stupid foul but redeemed himself with a crucial late block

Victor Lindelof – 7

Let Hudson – Odoi in early on but recovered for a steady and solid showing without either of his usual centre-back partners

Eric Bailly – 7

The best of the makeshift defence, the tenacious Ivorian blocked and tackled well. Did little wrong and stood strong to keep Chelsea at arm’s length

Alex Telles – 7

With Shaw still injured, United’s back up left-back shackled Chelsea’s talented wing-back Reece James. Good defensively and tried to get forward, Telles was disciplined and organised.

Scott McTominay – 8

Pugnacious and battled well, his w0rk rate can’t be questioned and he brought grit and steel to the engine room. Unfortunate to be booked but drove us on with his energy and pressing. Superb.

Fred – 7

Improved and grew in influence as the game went on. Offered support on the counter-attack but squandered a late chance by thinking he was Eric Cantona. Shouldn’t detract from an excellent performance overall though.

Nemanja Matic – 7

Read the game well and ensured United were never over-run. Back on his old stamping ground, Matic’s guile ensured Chelsea never truly got the better of us. Solid if unspectacular.

Jadon Sancho – 7

Didn’t get much of the ball but finished superbly when he did get in shortly after half-time. He has arrived as a Man Utd player. Oddly taken off first

Bruno Fernandes – 5

Deployed in an alien false nine position, he was involved in Sancho’s opener but otherwise did little. Carrick perhaps left out the wrong Portuguese.

Marcus Rashford – 5

Carved out a good chance for Sancho but otherwise quiet and fortunate to stay on as long as he did. Replaced by Jesse Lingard

Cristiano Ronaldo – for Sancho 64 – 5

A shock omission from Carrick’s starting side but arguably the selection worked. Saw little of the ball and never threatened a winner.

Jesse Lingard – for Rashford 77 – 6

Showed energy and industry in attack
