Charlton made it four wins from four, as they scored from the only two shots on target at Blackburn. Karin Muya had the Addicks ahead after only 11 minutes, the lead doubled before the break with Elisha N’Dow scoring from a Mel Filis corner.

Durham defeated Birmingham City to leapfrog them into second position. Lily Crosthwaite gave the Wildcats the lead two minutes after the restart, winning the ball on halfway and driving forward to slot home past Lucy Thomas.

Portsmouth still await their first-ever WSL goal or point, following a home defeat to Newcastle. Amy Andrews put United one up after the half-hour mark, lifting Jasmine McQuade’s chip over the goalkeeper and into the net. McQuade got the second herself approaching the final 15 minutes, giving Newcastle a second win in three and sending Pompey to a fourth defeat in a row.

Southampton are one of four teams two points behind third-placed Birmingham, after sending Sheffield United to their fourth defeat. Freya Gregory struck for the Saints from a Lucie Kendall assist, inside the last third of the game. Rianna Dean doubled the advantage with two minutes of the 90 left.

Sunderland’s first points of the season came with a 1-0 victory over London City Lionesses. The Black Cats took the lead close to the hour mark, Katie Kitching’s corner headed in by Natasha Fenton.
