George Dobson left Charlton Athletic this summer at the end of his contract after spending three years at The Valley, and has since signed for newly-promoted League One side Wrexham.

The 26-year-old captained the Addicks for half of his spell in SE7, and was a standout performer during an underwhelming period for the club on the pitch.

Football League World exclusively revealed in January that Dobson was set to join Hungarian top flight side Fehérvár this summer after signing a pre-contract agreement. Charlton had made several offers of a new deal for the midfielder, but their attempts were not enough to convince him to renew his terms.

Dobson's deal with Fehérvár was terminated for personal reasons this summer, and he instead signed for League One club Wrexham on a free transfer, as was also exclusively revealed by FLW. He will play under former Charlton boss Phil Parkinson at The Racecourse Ground, as The Red Dragons look to continue on their upwards trajectory during the coming seasons.

'Dobbo' enjoyed a good relationship with the supporters during his time in a Charlton shirt, after his hard work and combativeness on the pitch quickly endeared him to them. He was named the Supporters' Player of the Year in 2022 after his debut season, and finished in the top three for the award at the end of both his other campaigns.

The former Sunderland man also had time for the fans off the pitch, and he sent an emotional message to them following confirmation of his move to Wrexham. He uploaded a post to Instagram in which he shared his message.

"CAFC. Where do I start?" Dobson wrote.

"It's hard to put into words but I want to thank all the fans, players and staff for the most incredible 3 years that I'll never forget. You made me and my family feel so welcomed from the get go and I genuinely always appreciated all of your support.

"I've met and worked with so many amazing people at the club and in the community who truly make the foundation of the club so special.

"That incredible night at Old Trafford, the mad game against Ipswich and the honour of captaining this wonderful football club are just a few of the special moments I've had. The reception I received in those last 2 games of the season are moments that will stay with me forever and for that I can only say thank you.

"Lastly, I would like to wish the players, coaching staff and fans all the best for the future. Genuinely there is so many good people throughout the club who deserve success! I'll be keeping a close eye!

Dobson will return to The Valley next season

Dobson played in a slightly more advanced midfield role under Nathan Jones than he had done under any of his previous Charlton managers. He scored one goal and assisted four during the Welshman's 16 games in charge, having only made one goal contribution all season prior to the arrival of the new boss.

Jones admitted that he would have liked to keep the midfielder, after Dobson had agreed to move on shortly before the 51-year-old was appointed as manager at The Valley.

The pair will face each other twice in the third tier next season. Charlton host Wrexham in League One on October 26, before the Addicks travel to Wales on April 26 for the return fixture in the penultimate game of the season.

Dobson will surely receive a warm reception when he returns to The Valley in October, something that is likely to be reciprocated if the midfielder's heartfelt message on Instagram is anything to go by.
