Charlton Athletic forward Tegan McGowan will miss the remainder of the season with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The Addicks confirmed the news via an update on their official club website this afternoon.

The 18-year-old sustained the injury during the second half of Charlton Athletic’s 2-1 derby victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last month. McGowan had to be replaced by teammate Emma Follis just before the hour mark in South London.

The teenager’s injury has now been fully assessed by the Charlton Athletic medical staff and it has been determined that McGowan has damaged her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The player will have surgery on the injury in the coming weeks before undergoing a period of rehabilitation.

Charlton Athletic signed McGowan in the summer transfer window after the player left Barclays Women’s Super League champions Chelsea where she spent her youth. The youngster has gone on to make eight appearances for Charlton Athletic in all competitions this season while she is still waiting for her first goal for the South East Londoners.

McGowan’s injury is a real blow for Charlton Athletic with Karen Hills’ side having found some consistency in recent weeks following a difficult early season spell.
