Charlton Athletic have confirmed the news that defender Hannah Godfrey has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The Addicks made the announcement via a post on their official club Twitter account a short time ago.

Godfrey sustained the injury during the club’s 3-0 victory over Birmingham City at The Valley last weekend. The defender was replaced by Mia Ross in the 39th minute of the match in South East London. The player’s injury has been assessed by the Charlton Athletic medical team and the club have confirmed that Godfrey has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The player will now spend a lengthy period in rehabilitation as she looks to overcome the injury.

Charlton Athletic signed Godfrey in summer 2021 after the player left Barclays Women’s Super League club Tottenham Hotspur. The defender led by example at the back for The Addicks last season, making 15 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Championship. Godfrey had started all three of Charlton Athletic’s matches this season prior to her injury.

Yesterday saw The Addicks line-up without Godfrey for the first time this season. Karen Hills’ side showed real grit and determination to overcome a 10-player Sunderland side 3-2 at The Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.
