Wigan won the FA Cup in 2013

Genuine Fake

Wyke has now broken his silence since his initial operation to deliver an update to not only Wigan supporters but general football fans, where he reveals his aims to return to training in pre-season before making a comeback in competitive action.

First though, Wyke needs to undergo a procedure in the next few weeks which will also require a period of rest, and only then can he return to training with the League One promotion hopefuls – but he won’t return before the end of the 2021-22 season.

The Verdict

It will be music to everyone’s ears that Wyke will eventually return later in 2022.

Christian Eriksen’s comeback has served as an inspiration to Wyke and it shows that it can be done, even after such a traumatic experience.

Wigan signed Wyke in the summer to be their talisman and to get them back into the Championship, and it’s incredibly sad that he was only able to play a minimal part this season.

But he could end up being a Championship player in 2022-23 the way things are going, with his team-mates on the right track to helping the Latics finish in the top two.
