Having departed the Championship club, the winger is now a free agent and has been linked with a move to Celtic in previous transfer windows.

Although Espanyol have emerged as recent suitors and a switch to Spain is a possibility, Mulgrew hopes his former club step in to sign the 23 year old.

After selling Nicolas Kuhn to Como in a £16.5 million deal, Brendan Rodgers is now seeking reinforcements in the wide areas. The Scottish champions need at least two wingers following the exits of Kuhn and Palma and the long-term injury Jota suffered.

Having registered seven goals and six assists for Blackburn last season, Dolan is viewed by his ex teammate as an ideal match for Celtic’s style of play.

Speaking on Go Football Radio Show, Mulgrew said: “Wingers, in the past, have played a huge part in everything Celtic are.”

“Speed, assists and goals. I think Brendan Rodgers would love a winger who has goal contributions and who can score goals. I think that’s an area that they can improve on. Somebody asked there who I would sign for Celtic. I would sign Tyrhys Dolan.”

“He is out of contract with Blackburn, a winger. He was a young lad coming through at Blackburn. He was brilliant last year. He is out of contract, so I would go and sign him.”

Meanwhile, following Celtic’s 5-1 heavy defeat to Ajax last night, the Hoops will now face Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli in tomorrow night’s 3rd/4th playoff.

It will be Celtic’s seventh and final pre-season encounter prior to preparing for next Sunday’s Scottish Premiership opener against St Mirren at Celtic Park.

With inaction in the transfer market, the manager seems restless and quite rightfully so. Yet again, Celtic are heading into August and are woefully underprepared for the campaign kicking off whilst Champions League qualifiers are just around the corner.
