Ahead of Manchester United’s much-awaited clash against Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, the majority of the headlines have been about Erik ten Hag’s future.

As things stand, it appears that – akin to Louis van Gaal – Ten Hag will depart Old Trafford even if he wins his second trophy in as many seasons in England.

For now, though, it is best to wait for an official confirmation from INEOS, who remain tight-lipped about their decision concerning the Dutch coach’s position.

However, we now have an official statement from another United figure, who is set to exit the club at the end of the season.

Charlie McNeill, who returned to the red side of Manchester from City in the summer of 2020, has sent a message to the club’s supporters, confirming his departure.

The 20-year-old striker took to Instagram to bid an emotional farewell, writing: “My time has now come to an end at Manchester United and I would just like to say thank you to all the coaches, staff, fans and everyone involved at the club for the best 4 years ever.”

McNeill’s only senior appearance for the Red Devils came in September of 2022 against Real Sociedad in the Europa League. The prolific goal-scorer, who first made headlines for supposedly scoring 600 goals for City at youth level, leaves the club on a free transfer.

Anthony Martial is another United forward who is set to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract.

It appears Martial has already played his last game for the Mancunian giants, as he has reportedly not been spotted with the travelling squad for the big encounter against Pep Guardiola’s men on Saturday.

Martial and McNeill may not get their chance to say goodbye in style at Wembley, but the same cannot be said for Raphael Varane.

The former Real Madrid centre-back has also confirmed he is leaving United this summer. Much like Martial, Varane has also struggled with injuries all season.

However, he returned to action off the bench against Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend. Considering his experience, it will not surprise many if Varane is named in the starting lineup to stop the likes of Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish.
