Josep Maria Bartomeu and his Barcelona board have stepped down from their positions tonight with immediate effect, he has confirmed.
Despite the under-fire Blaugrana chief claiming on Monday night that he would fight the no confidence motion and would not stand down, he has now performed a shock u-turn.
He and his board tendered their resignations en masse at a board meeting on Tuesday evening and heir decision was accepted without argument.
It brings to an end his six-year spell at the helm.
Bartomeu and his board reportedly decided to depart, per several outlets, due to the fact that the no confidence vote would proceed despite his attempts to block it.
More than 20,000 fans had signed that motion of censure against his presidency but a vote is now no longer required.
The club will now be overseen by a temporary Management Commission and elections must be held within a minimum time period of 40 days but no longer than 90 days.
