“Changed the match – 8” – Rangers players rated v Killie | OneFootball

Rangers made a big big BIG win at Rugby Park tonight, and Ibrox Noise brings back our ratings for what could be a historic victory in the race for the title, 23/24.

We bring you our numbers:

Butland:

The save he made at 1-0 was stunning, absolutely stunning, and the closest he’s come to emulating a ‘miracle’ save from the likes of McGregor. It probably won us the match as much as anything. 9

Tavernier:

Another performance from Tav in which he made the difference, that free kick being a scorcher. Wasn’t able to get his troops going in the first half, but second half saw a big change and his goal was sublime – and galvanised the team. 9

Goldson:

Should actually have scored but for a misdirected header, and defended with his usual array of clearances. Solid. 7

Souttar:

Big, strong, powerful, and didn’t do much wrong at all. 8

Barisic:

Oh. Dear. This was literally diabolical and close to his Parkhead shambles under Giovanni, Barisic was weak at the back, and fell over for no real reason and picked up the ball, expecting a free kick, instead being booked for it. Appeared cowardly in general and his crossing was pathetic. Removed at HT. 2

Lunny:

Really really struggled with this one, couldn’t get his passing game going and gave away a silly penalty by raising his arm/hand and turning his back on the ball. It’s the poorest he’s played in months and his worst of the season by a distance. 4

Diomande:

We really didn’t think he’d start, and his performance showed why – dreadful passing, looked lost, and was weak on this surface in that weather. Bad call to pick him but Clement decided against removing. 4

Cortes:

Another one whose name was surprising, Cortes didn’t like the surface as we’d known he wouldn’t, even although he tried as hard as he could. Heart was there but his game just didn’t work on this pitch. 5

McCausland:

We’d picked him to start for his workrate and running, but sadly he looked subdued and even though his passing was a good rate, it was all safe and didn’t go anywhere. Rightly removed shortly after half time. 5

Lawrence:

Energy and workrate, and popped up with a clinical finish for the winner. Wasn’t particularly influential otherwise but his contribution was ultimately match winning. 8

Silva:

Yet another one we’d assumed Clement would have the wisdom not to pick, but another one who just wasn’t at it on this pitch. Very poor and his Rangers career is still struggling to really catch fire. Removed at HT. 4

Subs:

Ridvan:

Defensively so much tighter than Barisic, and while it took a little while to find his rhythm, the backline did seem way safer than the Croat’s disinterested approach. 6

Dessers:

His presence offered a tonne more power and options than Silva, with the big Nigerian managing to find the woodwork. He’s becoming Rangers’ number one by a mile these days. 7

Wright:

In truth, he did more than many around him, and while he’s not popular, he worked hard at the back and even got in a couple of shots. 6

Sterling:

This was the BIG change, and the one that truly changed the flow of the match in conjunction with Tav’s equaliser one minute earlier. He was strong, full of running, and he gave a hard working balance that McCausland just didn’t. Rangers looked a completely different side once he was on. 8

Raskin:

Tidy enough, didn’t do anything to impact the match but never does. 5

Manager:

Clement got the starting XI wrong, we could all see this but gave our faith, and sure, that faith was wrong after 45 minutes because it was a bum note of a horror first half in which he didn’t make any changes and left it to stew.He can also thank Jack Butland for the massive save early in the second which may well have otherwise put Killie out of reach here. But he made all the changes he needed to, and reverted to the team Ibrox Noise had picked, Barisic aside. And the difference was huge. He fixed his screw up here, and walks away with his head held high that he made the changes when truly needed and got them right. 3 points is his reward. 8
