A number of West Brom supporters have suggested that Jordan Hugill made a positive difference for the Baggies after coming from the bench in their goalless draw against Derby County.

Valerien Ismael’s side went into the game hoping to get back to winning ways after they were held to a draw by Millwall on Saturday.

However, the Baggies were unable to find a breakthrough thanks to a combination of excellent defending by the Rams and goalkeeping by Kelle Roos.

It had been a real struggle for West Brom in the opening 45 minutes. The Baggies lacked enough of a physical presence upfront to hold the ball up and link the play with other players in the final third.

As a result, Ismael decided to bring Hugill off the bench for the second half. The arrival of the 29-year-old onto the pitch did play a part in helping West Brom look much more of a sustained threat to Derby’s goal.

Hugill was able to better occupy Derby’s three-man defence and he managed to hold the ball up well at times and provide a focal point for those around him.

That saw West Brom able to create numerous chances in the second period that they were unable to take and had to settle for a draw.
