Charlton Athletic owner Charlie Methven has revealed that his group Global Football Partners have no intention of selling the club at this point, speaking to the South London Press.

The Addicks have seen a number of takeovers happen this century, with GFP currently at the helm.

They took control of the club back in July 2023 from Thomas Sandgaard - and have already made some key decisions during their time at The Valley.

The group have certainly put their money where their mouth is, sacking Dean Holden earlier this season and replacing him with former Premier League boss Nathan Jones, who previously did an excellent job at Luton Town.

They also invested a decent amount in the squad during the January transfer window - and some of these additions could potentially help them to push for a top-six finish next season.

Unfortunately for them, they are already on the beach this term, having struggled for much of it.

But with some more investment in the summer, they could be real promotion contenders next term, having previously been in real danger of remaining in League One for the long term.

The first season may not have gone according to plan for the new ownership, but the Addicks have registered some promising results in recent months and have something to build on.

Methven on Cellino's links to Charlton Athletic: "Thoughts of selling it couldn’t be any further from our minds"

Methven, a co-owner, has been outspoken before and has spoken out once again following these latest rumours.

He said: "Charlton Athletic is a fantastic club and will always attract interest from players, managers and even people who ultimately might want to own the club.

"Our ownership group, Global Football Partners, are intensely proud and happy to be the owners of the club and any thoughts of selling it couldn’t be any further from our minds.

"As such, we note the speculation with a wry smile and – whilst being respectful of any interest which is either lodged with us, or speculated about – we are simply 100 per cent happy and proud to be the custodians of Charlton Athletic for the medium to long term."

Charlton are a side with a huge amount of potential.

With the players they brought in during the January window and the backing they have from the fans, the Addicks could easily fight for promotion next season.

At the moment, it feels like the club are only at an early stage in their project.

And this is a key reason why the owners shouldn't be looking to sell up anytime soon.

Having only taken over less than a year ago, it doesn't make sense for them to cash in on the club now, even though they may receive a decent amount of money if they did sell up.
