Ben Johnson won't be leaving West Ham United this month, according to journalist Graeme Bailey who revealed this information to Leeds United News.

The full-back has been the subject of plenty of interest this month, with the player struggling for game time earlier on in the season.

However, he has become a more important part of the first-team squad, making appearances in three of their last four league games.

This is a real boost for Johnson, who has spent much of the season either on the bench or out of the matchday squad completely.

He may have made eight senior appearances in all competitions this term, but only three have come in the league and now he has more game time under his belt in recent weeks, he will be looking to build on that.

With David Moyes not set to sanction a January exit though, that could be a promising sign for Johnson who will want to continue making an impact for the Irons before potentially reassessing his future in the summer.

His contract expires this year and although he has been offered numerous deals to remain at the London Stadium, his future remains uncertain because he has turned these offers down, potentially because he hasn't won much game time this term.

Whether his stance changes remains to be seen - but one thing that does now look likely is that he will stay put at his current club beyond the end of the January transfer window.

Football Transfers reported earlier this week that both Leeds United and Millwall had made approaches to try and secure a deal for the full-back.

Leeds are in desperate need of strengthening their full-back department after losing Luke Ayling and Djed Spence, with midfielder Archie Gray currently playing at right-back.

But it's unclear whether they will be able to bring one in before the window closes, having spent a decent amount in the summer.

The Lions, who are currently managed by Joe Edwards, could have offered him the chance to stay in the capital but win more game time.

But that potential move doesn't look set to materialise now.

In the short term, Leeds need to move on to other targets and get one nailed down as soon as possible - because they risk being weak in this area if they suffer injuries.

Sam Byram may only stay fit for a certain amount of time, so the Whites need another option in this area.

Failing to bring in an option could be costly in their promotion quest, so they know what they need to do between now and the deadline.

In the longer term though, both teams should be looking to keep Johnson in their thoughts.

He could be available for free in the summer - and either Leeds or the Lions could pick up a bargain at that point. There's a real chance that could happen, with The Athletic reporting that the Irons aren't planning to offer the defender another deal.
