CHAN 2024: South Africa unveils official 25-man squad
South Africa has officially announced, this Thursday, July 24, 2025, its list of 25 local Bafana Bafana players selected for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled from August 2 to 30 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Molefi Ntseki’s squad for CHAN 2024 is now set. The South African local coach will approach this 8th edition of the competition with a group of 25 players, including 12 who are currently free agents. As CHAN regulations require a roster made up entirely of home-based players, Ntseki faced the challenge of several clubs refusing to release their talents. Only Mamelodi Sundowns FC agreed to free up to five players for CHAN 2024: Neo Maema, Terrence Mashego, Keagan Johannes, Malibongwe, and Ntando Nkosi.
"We are in Group C and the team we have chosen is mainly made up of the players with whom we started this journey. We are looking forward to the tournament and will give it our all. We simply want to thank the clubs and coaches who managed to release their players," said coach Molefi Ntseki.
The South African squad will kick off their campaign on August 8 against Algeria at the Mandela National Stadium, before facing Guinea, Niger, and hosts Uganda in succession.
